Washington, DC (BWA) --Seminaries in Sweden are being instructed by the government
to de-emphasize theological education in favor of general religious studies.
According to Christianity Today, "The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education
reported in June that state-supported schools must favor religious studies over 
theological education." The government agency is in charge of inspecting and promoting
higher education in the Scandinavian country, evaluates universities and colleges,
conducts quality assessments, and takes initiatives in updating teaching methods.

Hurricane Ida causes devastation in El Salvador, destroys Baptist church 11 Nov 2009
Washington, DC (BWA) --Eight persons, including seven children, are missing after
the destruction of First Baptist Church in San Vicente in the Central American country
of El Salvador.
The church collapsed following heavy showers and flooding caused by Hurricane Ida
on Sunday, November 8.
"We are mourning because today once again the rain has provoked desolation and death,"
wrote Gloria Cabrera de Rivera, former president of the Baptist Women's Union of
Latin America. "The coastal zone on the Pacific side and places bordering have
